PRESS RELEASE

The U.S. Census Bureau is actively recruiting job applicants from EVERY community in Barren County and adjoining counties RIGHT NOW for work to be done in upcoming months on the 2010 census.

The jobs are temporary and may be part- or full-time. While most jobs available are for census data gatherers, also called enumerators, other types of positions are also available, such as crew leaders and crew leader assistants. Most positions available here pay $11.25 an hour or $12.75 an hour, and mileage expenses are reimbursed where appropriate for field positions.

Census workers not only help themselves with this employment, they also serve their communities. Information gathered during the census process provides an overall snapshot of the needs in each area, and that picture is used, for example, by the government to determine where billions of federal funds go and by businesses to help determine future locations. The information is also used to determine congressional district lines.

Anyone interested in applying will have to take a basic skills test, which is being offered at various times and in communities around the county NOW, so applicants should not delay. Barren County has test sites in the following communities: Austin, Cave City, Glasgow (two locations), Lecta-Kino/east Barren area, Hiseville, Park City and Temple Hill. Applicants should request a site nearest them. Space is limited for each testing session.

For more information and/or to find out when and where tests are scheduled and to be placed on a list to take the test, call (866) 861-2010.

Additional information and a practice test are available at www.2010censusjobs.gov.
